Basilisco

Basilisco is a snake with a cockerel's head hatched from a small egg laid by an old hen or coloured cockerel.  The say a red worm seeps from the eggs to to slither it’s way under Chilotan houses and withing a year the worm turns into Basilisco.   At that point, he sneaks into bedrooms in the middle of the night, making a sort of cackling sound, and then extracts phlegm from the people living there, followed by their breath and energy.

It can also live in caves showing only its head to its victim who is then struck dead by its gaze. If it only sees a part of the victim that part is paralysed for ever.

His victims start to lose weight and dry up until they die.  This cock-headed snake originally came from
Europe and cannot be combated, not even by sorcerers.  The only remedy is to set fire to the house where he is present.
